Baseball Bat Beating Has Two Charged With Murder
Marcin Strojny of Hardwood Height Allegedly Died By the Duo's Hands.
Get breaking news alertsCHICAGO (STNG) ― Two Chicago men were charged Friday with first-degree murder in the fatal beating of a 24-year-old man on the West side July 29, while a third suspect in the beating is still on the loose, police said.

Charged with first-degree murder is Grzegorz Zawadowicz, 50, of the 2500 block of North Lockwood Avenue, according to police News Affairs Officer Kristina Schuler. Enrique Garcia, 33, of the 4700 block of West Byron Street, was also charged with first degree murder, Schuler said.

A representative from the Cook County State's Attorney's Office could not be reached for comment.

The two men are charged with allegedly beating to death Marcin Strojny, of 5023 N. Nashville Ave. in Harwood Heights, and sending another man to the hospital, Schuler said.

Strojny was pronounced dead at Resurrection Medical Center at an unknown time, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

A 31-year-old man also beaten in the attack was taken to Our Lady of Resurrection Medical Center in "stable" condition, Schuler said. The victim has since been treated and released from the hospital.

The beating took place around 4:30 a.m. at 4746 W. Wellington Ave., Schuler said.

According to witnesses, Strojny and the other man quarreled with four other men at a nearby establishment, Schuler said.

Strojny and the 31-year-old man left the establishment and the four other men followed, Schuler said. They caught up to the two men and beat them with baseball bats, she said.

Schuler did not know what the initial quarrel was about.

Grand Central Area detectives are searching for the third suspect.
